The Butterfly Bush

THE BUTTERFLY BUSH (K. McMaster)  –  2:36

He said,

“I’ll make of you a bush,

For all the world to see,

But I’ll set it in the shadow,

Of the maple trees.”

The mama and the papa tree,

With leafy canopy,

Forever in the shade,

Of the arms that comfort me

So should I stab it all away?

Prune strategically?

Hack of all those limbs and fingers,

Reaching out to me?

Should I make of me an island,

And set myself upon the sea?

Should I cover up with filthy angst,

And make a mountain out of me?

Should I set a blaze in all the green,

That was meant to coddle me?

Or should I take, and be a bush,

And draw the butterflies to me?
