TORTOISE (K. McMaster)  –  5:29

I move slowly into the world,

Please forgive me my lack of speed,

I drag many things behind me,

Carry a great weight of need

I ponder too long on my stature,

That my stature has taken to fall,

I wear the posture of the cripple,

The more I try to stand tall

For my failures travel with me,

Every mile I venture to tread,

That my prospects are beyond me,

Or behind me, or maybe just dead

For a smile is a stranger,

A feeling I have yet to feel,

So that love is a mystery,

A phantom, or something unreal

Now I wander through these mazes,

Through the troubles and toils of life,

And to what end is this torment,

This angst and perpetual strife?
